Metanoia's Counselling and Psychotherapy Service

More information about the service

Who We Are

Metanoia Institute is one of the largest counselling and psychotherapy training organisations in Britain. We provide a high standard of training in different approaches to counselling and psychotherapy.

The Metanoia Counselling and Psychotherapy Service was established in 1996. Since then it has grown from a service with just a handful of practitioners, to a team of approximately 120 therapists, working with over 500 clients a year.

What is the purpose of counselling and psychotherapy?

In recent years, counselling and psychotherapy have been increasingly recognised as effective in managing the problems of modern life. We live in times of rapid and sometimes unexpected changes, which can cause stresses and may be very hard to cope with.

Counselling and psychotherapy offer a safe place to find ways of dealing with these issues, as well as other emotional difficulties such as depression, anxiety, relationship problems and other concerns.

Our therapists offer confidential counselling and psychotherapy to support people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing.

What is low-cost therapy?

With low-cost therapy, you will be working with a therapist who is currently in training. The reason we offer low-cost therapy services is twofold; we are not only providing therapy services to those who have low income, but we are also giving trainee therapists an opportunity to develop their skills in face-to-face sessions with clients.

At MCPS, you can have up to six months of sessions, with our trainee practitioners. All of our practitioners are in regular clinical supervision, and the service is evaluated on an ongoing basis.

If you would prefer to work with a qualified therapist in private practice, you can search for a therapist via our Online Directory (www.metanoiatherapists.co.uk). Therapists in this directory are members of the Metanoia Institute who work in private practice.

N.B. Online directory unavailable:

Our online directory is currently offline for maintenance. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We will provide an update once the directory is back online. Thank you for your understanding.

What happens during the assessment appointment?

Assessment appointments last 50 minutes. During the appointment your assessor will explore what is bringing you to therapy, your current circumstances, and your personal history.

The purpose of the assessment is for us to ensure that you will be well supported by our trainee therapists. If the assessor feels that this is the case, they will ask about your availability and preferences and allocate you to an appropriate therapist.

Where is MCPS located?

We provide low-cost counselling and psychotherapy at our two sites in Ealing: 13 North Common Road, London, W5 2QB and 13 Gunnersbury Avenue, London, W5 3XD. We also have an online-only therapy service.

Both of our face-to-face sites can be reached from Ealing Common station (10 minute walk) and Ealing Broadway station (15 minute walk).

Local buses: 83, 112, 207, 42.
