Have you worked with clients from a different social class?
A Request for Research Participants:
Have you worked with clients from a different social class?
I am a 5th year MSc student and practitioner of Person-Centred Psychotherapy at Metanoia Institute. I am looking for volunteers to participate in my research dissertation (which has been approved by the Metanoia Institute Research Ethics Committee).
This research aims to understand Person-Centred therapist/counsellors’ experiences when working with clients from a different social class, as perceived and defined by the therapist/counsellor. There is very little literature available on the topic. This study aims to contribute to filling that gap and help practitioners develop their class-sensitive practice.
As a potential participant, you will:
- Have at least one year’s experience working with clients in the UK
- Have worked with at least one client who is a different social class from you (as defined by you)
- Be either a trainee or qualified therapist or counsellor from a recognised Person-Centred training (Dip 4 or above; BA / MSc) and have access to therapy and/or supervision
- Be aged 21+
- Feel willing to openly talk about your experiences of social class in therapy (from your perspective as a therapist/counsellor)
I would like to interview you and audio record our conversation. The interview would be for about an hour, unstructured and open-ended. It would be followed by an informal chat for up to half an hour, in which I can support you to process anything that may have emerged and/or you can feed back to me about the interview process itself.
Your anonymity and personal data would be fully protected, and you would be able to withdraw at any time, without reason (until I start my data analysis).
If you might be interested in taking part please get in touch with me, Amy, at: amy.ryles@metanoia.ac.uk. We could have a brief call to answer any questions you might have and, if you’re still interested, to find a place (online or in-person) and time/date that is convenient for you to meet for the interview.
Your interest is very appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you.
Warm wishes,
Amy
