Attendance and Missed Sessions

Metanoia Institute recognises that in exceptional and unforeseen circumstances you may not be able to attend some of the training days for the course on which you are enrolled. To pass the year, you must attend at least 80% of the course.

Most of our training courses involve a large amount of experiential work. Therefore, you will not be able to make up the necessary knowledge and learning simply by ensuring that you have copies of notes and handouts or by doing extra written work. When you miss some part of the training, we need you to show that you have made up the lost training hours and the learning that you would have gained.

You should discuss the way in which you intend to make up for the training that you have missed with your tutor, who will be best placed to help you decide whether what you want to do will be relevant. Also, you will be expected to read any handouts from the weekend and the related reading. You need to ensure that you have completed any outstanding training, by the start of the next academic year if you wish to proceed onto the next year of your training.

A combination of the following may also count as equivalence:

* The delivery of an evening seminar to your fellow students (min 30 mins with accompanying handouts)

* The delivery of a presentation to your supervision group with written feedback from your clinical supervisor (min 30 mins with accompanying handouts)

* The presentation of a workshop at a conference (min 30 mins with accompanying handouts)

* The publication of a related article in a professional journal

* A published book review on a related topic

* A written piece of approximately 1000 words, reflecting on your experience. For example, if you have missed group process, what you have learned about your process in not being part of it.

* Reflecting and engaging with your peer group on any scenarios or experiential

exercises that you missed, followed by a written piece of approximately 1000 words reflecting on what you have learned from reading the pre-reading and handouts, and the relevance to clinical practice, as appropriate.

Each of the above options, and any others that you wish to be considered, should be discussed with your Programme Leader to see if they can count as equivalent, in terms of both hours and relevance, to what you have missed. You will also need to complete and submit (to your Primary Tutor) a “Missed Session Form” (which can be found within your faculty Moodle page) with supporting evidence, showing how you have made up the time.
