Course Overview
This undergraduate training in advanced counselling will equip you to work in a range of therapeutic fields, from private practice to healthcare and the public sector. Over three academic years, you'll develop a strong foundation in a high level of fluency in person-centred theory and gain hands-on skills training within a pluralistic framework, culminating in a BSc (Hons) degree awarded by Middlesex University and accredited by the BACP.
- Gain an in-depth knowledge of person-centred and pluralistic counselling theories and applications.
- Learn how to apply evidence-based methods tailored to your client's needs.
- Train in an ethical, reflective approach to counselling and research practices.
- Develop creative expression, self-awareness, and reflexivity, via in-depth personal development.
- Be supported to develop your own congruent idiosyncratic person-centred pluralistic way of working with your clients, including the use of creative therapeutic methods.
- Understand and identify mental distress and the implications of medication on therapy.
- Conduct and present case study research.
The programme offers enriching placement experiences, honing your skills in both individual practice and team-based settings. As you progress, particularly in the final year, the curriculum is designed to ensure you graduate with the confidence and competence to establish and grow a successful counselling practice.

- Entry Requirements:
- Metanoia’s introductory Certificate in Therapeutic Skills and Studies or equivalent training elsewhere, such as a Level 2 or 3 Counselling Skills course.
- At least one Level 3 qualification such as an A Level, AS Level, Advanced Apprenticeship, International Baccalaureate Diploma, Level 3 NVQ, T Level, or Level 3 National Certificate or Diploma.
- English Language Requirements:
- Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Metanoia Institute’s English language requirements for undergraduate applicants. We accept IELTS or equivalent qualifications as outlined in our admissions criteria.
