BSc (Hons) in Reflective Therapeutic Practice (One Year Top Up)

Modules | BSc (Hons) in Reflective Therapeutic Practice (One Year Top Up)

The BSc (Hons) in Reflective Therapeutic Practice (One Year Top-Up) is designed for qualified and practising counsellors, psychotherapists, coaches, and allied health professionals who wish to deepen their clinical practice and gain an undergraduate honours degree. This programme is ideal for those whose previous qualifications did not include university validation or a strong emphasis on reflective practice.

Teaching Methods

The course comprises three compulsory modules delivered through a blend of in-person and online learning. Each module begins with an in-person, on-site session, followed by online live training sessions designed to fit around the busy schedules of practising professionals.

Teaching includes:

  • In-person, on-site training days
  • Online live sessions held on Saturdays
  • Pre-session activities and post-session feedback
  • Online discussion forums and ‘ask your tutor’ sessions
  • Community meetings and induction videos to support the learning experience

Modules

The programme is structured over three core modules:

  1. Reflective Inquiry Focus Module (30 credits/Level 6)
  2. Reflective Inquiry Project Module (60 credits/Level 6)
  3. Reflective Inquiry Conclusion Module (30 credits/Level 6)

Clinical Placements, Personal Counselling and Supervision

No formal placements are required as part of this programme, but students are expected to be in ongoing clinical practice.

Applicants may bring Diploma Level 4 and 5 Credits as a certificated route onto the programme. It will also be possible to enter the programme via an assessed APL/APEL process, which consists of an initial interview, followed by the compilation and satisfactory passing of a portfolio, in which candidates reflect on their previous experience. The interview is designed to assess the potential candidate’s suitability to undertake the particular form of reflective study that typifies the course, and to ensure that they meet the entry requirements –namely that they have already qualified from a recognised professional training of at least two years duration, that they have at least 100 hours of clinical practice and that they are registered with the appropriate professional accrediting body.
