Person-Centred Conversations Across Cultures
Sheila Haugh will be presenting a series of sessions, in which she invites guests to talk about person-centred therapy across cultures.
Originating from the USA in the 1950s and 1960s, person-centred counselling/psychotherapy was very much a product of the zeitgeist of the times and of a white, western, gendered psychology. Nevertheless, person-centred therapy has spread to many parts of the world. Rogers was very attached to the idea of a ‘way of being’ disliking the term ‘Rogerian’ for person-centred therapy. We each find our own way of being and expressing the philosophy and values of the approach when we are working with someone. How different might a person-centred therapist look across cultures – is there any difference? And are there any implications following from what we discover?
The first session is taking place on the 11th December with Professor Divine Charura.
