What is Therapy? - 6th April 2022, from 1830-2030

The Metanoia Institute are proud to present a session that explores how therapy can be understood, and how its differing meanings will impact upon both therapists' practices and their assumptions as to its purpose and possibilities.

IAPT services, short term therapy, time limited therapy, working online, working online during a pandemic, the rise of computer programmed therapeutic services and at least 450 different approaches to counselling and psychotherapy.

The ‘therapeutic world’ in which we place ourselves as clients, students, tutors, supervisors and consultants is very different from the one experienced and envisaged by Freud. It is very different from the therapeutic world that surrounded those thinkers and practitioners who came to be known as the founders of Humanistic Psychology.

In this open discussion, Ernesto Spinelli and Sheila Haugh will explore how therapy can be understood, and how its differing meanings will impact upon both therapists' practices and their assumptions as to its purpose and possibilities.
