In person: A Practical integrative approach to working with clients who experience an eating disorder
Psychotherapists can sometimes feel overwhelmed by the challenges and confusions presented by eating disorder clients. This highly practical workshop will offer in-depth skills to appreciate what and how different eating disorders may be conveyed.
The workshop will consider how else we can think about this illness beyond the symptoms, we will discuss how, at the core of ED may sit a loss of faith in the reliability of human relatedness.
We will explore defensive structures and their meanings from different ED perspectives, developmental stages, self-states and the big C word - ‘control’.
The second element is practical, working with your clients, working as a relational endeavour alongside the resistance, and the transference to establish a different kind of intersubjectivity, one of mutual recognition that ‘feeds’ the work (excuse pun, there are lots of them)!
Facilitated by Dr Renee Botham.
Renee is the co-founder of B-eat, the UK National charity, working for a number of years at a London teaching hospital from a psychodynamic stance and is an active member of AED, an international community of ED specialists.
