Course Structure

The curriculum for the PCE-CfD High Intensity Psychotherapeutic Counselling training is organised into three components taught over three years full time, comprising a one-year Foundation level training, followed by a two-year Postgraduate Diploma level training (see table below).

 

Course Structure

Component 1 (one year full-time)

Foundation year – no academic credit

 

• An extensive preparatory module in which trainees will gain a systematic knowledge of the fundamental principles and practice of humanistic/ person-centred psychotherapeutic counselling and an overview of the fundamental principles and practice of the IAPT modality they will be training in

• Trainees will undertake a minimum of 30 hours of skills practice in assessment and therapy (role play) before being individually assessed for readiness to work with service users

• Following sign off as meeting a Foundation standard of competence in simulation setting, trainees will undertake a minimum of 100 supervised client hours working with adults with mild to moderate depression in IAPT services

 

 

Component 2 (one year full-time)

PG Dip (Yr 1) –

60 credits

Trainees will:

• Build their knowledge and understanding of  Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression and develop ways of working with simple and more complex presentations of human distress and depression

• Gain critical knowledge and understanding of the theories and principles underpinning this modality

• Undertake a minimum of 150 supervised client hours working within the selected modality with service users with depression in an IAPT setting in line with the IAPT Manual

 

Component 3 (one year full-time)

PG Dip (Yr 2) –

60 credits

Trainees will:

• Complete the PCE-CfD training and assessment

• Undertake a minimum of 200 supervised client hours working within the selected modality with service users with depression in an IAPT setting

• Obtain individual accreditation/ registration with the IAPT recognised accreditation scheme for PCE-CfD in line with the IAPT Manual

 

Over the full programme trainees are required to complete:

 

• A minimum of 450 supervised client hours gained within an IAPT service

• A minimum of 450 training hours (skills and theory)

• A minimum of 50 personal therapy hours

• Individual PCE-CfD registration in line with the IAPT Manual (see the Manual for more details).
