National Student Survey: Student feedback reinforces Metanoia's commitment to continuous improvement in counselling education
Metanoia Institute has welcomed the publication of the latest National Student Survey (NSS), with students on its BSc (Hons) Counselling programmes reporting high levels of satisfaction across teaching, academic support and their overall learning experience.
- 100% of undergraduate students said their course had developed the knowledge and skills they needed for the future.
- 100% of undergraduate students said their course had helped them understand themselves more deeply
- 92.3% said their course helped them grow as a person
The independent survey, completed annually by final-year undergraduate students across England, provides an important opportunity for higher education providers to listen to students, understand their experiences and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
The results also demonstrate positive progress across several areas of the student experience. Compared with the previous year, students reported higher levels of satisfaction with course organisation, communication, assessment, learning resources and academic support, providing encouraging evidence that ongoing enhancements are making a meaningful difference.
The Institute achieved a 100% positivity score for developing the knowledge and skills students need for their future careers, significantly exceeding the sector average of 87%. Students also rated the Institute exceptionally highly for assessment and feedback, with 96.8% agreeing that feedback was received on time, 93.5% saying assessments enabled them to demonstrate what they had learned, and praising the quality of teaching (90.3%), and academic support (87.1%).
The survey also reflected the personal impact of studying counselling. In optional questions exploring personal development, 92.3% of students said their studies had helped them develop and grow as a person, while 100% said their course had enabled them to understand themselves more deeply.
The National Student Survey is one of the UK's largest independent surveys of final-year undergraduate students and plays an important role in supporting quality enhancement across higher education.
At Metanoia, student feedback is gathered throughout the year through a range of formal and informal channels, with the National Student Survey providing an important independent benchmark.
Together, these insights help shape curriculum development, strengthen the wider student experience and ensure the Institute continues to live its values of Community, Responsibility, Inclusion, Openness, and Challenge and Growth.
