Degree Awarding Powers
05/01/2023
Metanoia Institute intends to apply for full Degree Awarding Powers (DAPs) in 2023. Over the past few years we have been working towards the goal of achieving DAPs, strengthening our infrastructure and establishing our working practices. We are now in a position to pursue our application via the full DAPs route (rather than the NDAPs route) and we are working towards that aim. We shall update on progress through this exciting journey.

As we are currently waiting for the outcome of our initial submission to the Office for Students (OfS) there will be no changes in the coming academic year. All students on undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes starting in 2022 will be enrolling on degrees awarded by Middlesex University.
For students enrolling on degree programmes from autumn 2022, these will be awarded by Middlesex University while we continue our progress towards gaining our own Degree Awarding Powers

We are excited to announce that Metanoia Institute has begun the process to be able to award its own degrees. We are currently waiting for the outcome of our initial submission to the Office for Students (OfS) with the intention that all students on undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes will be enrolling for Metanoia Institute degrees from September 2022.
The institute has 35 years of experience in developing and delivering its own specialist degrees in psychotherapy, counselling psychology and counselling. These have been awarded by the University of Middlesex under a validation arrangement. This longstanding relationship will continue for the doctoral programmes. The move to degree awarding powers will allow the Institute to be recognised for the work which it already does as an autonomous academic community, in determining the awards it offers, in setting and maintaining the academic standards of those awards and assuring and enhancing the quality of the student experience.
Institute programmes have been developed in order to fulfil professional body requirements for academic study and clinical training. Our students will continue to be able to receive their clinical accreditation and to be able to practise on successful completion.
The decision regarding whether the Institute will be planning to enrol students on its own degrees next September will be released in January 2022. Please be aware that there may be some minor changes to programmes as a result of this. We will be updating our webpages and writing to applicants to ensure that everyone is informed of developments and any changes. In the meantime, applications will be open as normal and we encourage you to apply early.
