"Studying on the MSc in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes has enhanced my life and work in a variety of ways. I come from a writing background, and have facilitated writing groups before, but now I know how much goes into using the right techniques to present writing as therapeutic. It's lead me on a personal journey, through my own areas of interest, so that I can use writing to help different people. It's made me excited about the future of writing, as well as connecting me with amazing and inspirational lecturers, and wonderfully varied colleagues, who all have their own areas of interest too. This field is huge and alive, but there's still room for fresh and new ideas."
Andi Micheal, Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes
"Working with likeminded, caring individuals with the same common goals can truly bring about huge breakthroughs, and the students and tutors at Metanoia enabled me to reclaim without doubt my identity as a writer. Through expressive writing exercises, I realised I needn’t be so savagely critical of my work (as I had to be on my previous Masters in Creative Writing!) and I broke the habit of writing with such a commercial focus. I found a new level of freedom in my art and within myself, as well as the joy of sharing with others in a safe space. My self-made creative boundaries were pushed aside through CWTP, and since then I’ve been able to use writing as a meditative medium, and a way of conversing with myself. Since completing the course I’ve been able to apply the skills and techniques learnt to help co-facilitate a project called Write Minds for individuals with experience of self-harm, suicide, and similar difficulties, promoting self-expression through creative writing and the arts. Going forward, I intend to start a series of workshops further exploring the use of CWPT in the LGBTQ+ community, which early on became my area of interest and subsequent dissertation topic. The course opened my eyes to many unconsidered aspects of myself as an individual, and where I fit in with others. The lessons were invaluable, and I still continue to learn with each exercise, and with every reflection. Thom Seddon, March 2017"

"In my Gestalt training I am experiencing the potential for real growth and change that is possible through authentic and meaningful contact with another. The course has far surpassed my expectations over the past four years. The training weekends provided a rigorous theoretical base with which one could engage practically in the context of a supportive training group. Having access to world class tutors has been fantastic and the facilities at Metanoia are excellent. The house, with its beautiful garden, is an inviting and inspiring space which creates a truly creative learning environment. It has, at times, been a struggle to manage a full-time job with the demands of the training. However, I have always felt encouraged by all those around me: the admin team; the tutors; and especially my own training group. The training has also been an invaluable asset to me in my "day job" and has enriched my life in more ways than I have room to document here. Suffice to say, it has been a fantastic journey which continues to shape my path and guide my way."
Maria Ioannou, MSc in Gestalt Psychotherapy (Year 3)
"Having two tutors (Geraldine Thomson and Lorraine Munro), is something quite special, the combination of their differing styles works exceptionally well, I have found the course empowering, confidence building and fun. Despite the serious subject matter, their support, gentle challenging nature, accepting presence and genuineness has made me feel at ease despite my low confidence and doubting myself as a supervisor at the beginning of the course. As a group of practitioners, we very much had a say in the course structure which has helped me feel that it belongs to us. As we move towards the end of the course - I feel ready to begin my work as a supervisor."
Tim Poole, Certificate/Diploma in Person-Centred Supervision.
"Having moved away from London after the course, I find that the Metanoia name has an excellent reputation nationally, and I feel proud telling people where I studied. The quality of tutoring at Metanoia was for me, second to none; I particularly enjoyed the breadth and wide variety of professionals who taught us during our course – enlightening for a trainee to be exposed to so many different people with diverse passions and areas of expertise. And this, for me, aside from the rigour of the academic teaching, is where Metanoia shines and where I learnt the most: through the support and encouragement of the people there, from administrative staff, heads of departments, visiting tutors to primary tutors. As a graduate this supportive communication continues, which I think is really special. Though I have finished one chapter of my development as a Counsellor, I am already thinking of potential next steps. I would not hesitate in furthering my training at Metanoia and indeed in recommending it to others."
Helen Robertson, Diploma in Humanistic Counselling and BSc in Reflective Therapeutic Practice
"My years at Metanoia have been life-changing. Apart from the academic rigour, the learning I’ve achieved, and the excellent and supportive teaching, I feel I’ve changed personally. I have become more self-aware and conscious of others’ needs and feelings; more confident and self-assured in my relationships with others. It hasn’t been an easy process: the travel, the cost, the juggling day jobs and placements, the time needed to read and write essays and presentations – all this has stretched me to the limit. But it was worth it. I am now able to count several classmate/colleagues as friends. And the tutors have been inspirational. I would recommend Metanoia to anyone who really wants an emotionally transformative as well as educational experience. It has certainly prepared me for the work I want to do."
Steve Banfield, MSC Integrative Psychotherapy (year 4)
"This is a course of high quality tutoring allowing exploration and learning about supervision in a person centered environment... A master class of training. Having both Geraldine and Lorraine who have offered different experiences and dimensions have been extremely helpful and fruitful. Its been a pleasure to spend time with like minded, experienced practitioners to expand my knowledge and improve my practice of person centered supervision. Its great - do it!!!"
Carolyn Mungo, Certificate/Diploma in Person-Centred Supervision.
"Training at Metanoia Institute has been a genuinely transformative experience, both personally and professionally. I have done previous courses in the field of counselling and psychotherapy and none have come close to offering the level of support or the standard of teaching that I have experienced over the past four years. Reflecting on that experience, I feel that a huge amount of effort and thought have gone into designing a training which delivers both academic excellence in the teaching of theory alongside a high level of personalised support which honours and celebrates individuality. I personally felt encouraged at every stage of the training not just to learn and research, but also to reflect on the personal influences which informed the development of my own unique, integrative model. There have certainly been challenges and sometimes the level of self-examination that is encouraged has been painful, but I have felt supported through these times by both my group and my tu-tors, and invariably have come through them feeling that they have provided the opportunity for learning and growth. For anyone considering a training in this field, I don’t hesitate to recommend Metanoia. It is a significant commitment and one that will require sacrifices personally, professionally, financially and socially, but there is no doubt in my mind that, for me, those sacrifices have been well worth the re-wards."
Emily Cavendish, MSc Integrative Psychotherapy (year 4)
"I began my journey with much excitement and was warmly received, nurtured and supported by Metanoia . The Institute has been a friendly and welcoming place and offers me a level of support with my course that cannot be seconded .The teaching style which is both experiential and formal has suited my learning needs . Discovering my dyslexia as part of this journey caused me much personal change but Kate, my tutor Kieran and the Metanoia team could not have been any more understanding. They have been able to offer me considerable support and guidance which has allowed me to complete my first year successfully. The Institute is a warm and friendly place I have become very fond of and have many lasting memories which will stay with me forever . I came for an academic education and even after a year have been given so much more in personal growth. A reward that is beyond financial measure."
