 Helen is a BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and fellow of the Higher Education Academy who commenced her career as a paediatric nurse and worked for 12 years in this role before re- training as a counsellor and psychotherapist.

She later taught for 10 years at University of Salford in Manchester where she developed and led the Therapy, Ethics and Human Rights and the Professional Issues, Ethics & Supervision modules.

She was also responsible for the development of the children and young people’s training on both undergraduate and post graduate professional practice programmes and was the Programme Lead, trainer and research supervisor on the MSc in Counselling & Psychotherapy.

She now divides her time between her role as a Specialist Neonatal Counsellor at Manchester University Foundation Trust in Manchester her teaching, and her private counselling and supervision practice.

Helen brings many years of experience as a tutor and practitioner to her role as module leader for the Professional Issues, Law, Ethics & Standards & Practice Development and Personal and Professional Development modules in the first year of the DCPsych.

Her research and practice interests are around issues of trauma focusing on the impact of sexual violence, especially working with children and young people and perinatal mental health.
