Dr Jo Birkett
Dr Jo is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist registered with the HCPC. She has experience working in a variety of NHS and private practice settings, ranging from specialist trauma services to NHS Talking Therapies. After completing training in several therapeutic modalities, including psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Jo earned a Master’s in Counselling Psychology and qualified as a Clinical Psychologist from the Salomons Centre at Canterbury Christ Church University in 2018. Jo’s research interests include community-based approaches to mental health, particularly for victims of human trafficking, as well as the use of technology to increase access to support. She is also interested in student mental health, decolonising the curriculum and alternative paths to parenthood, including assisted reproductive technologies and non-traditional family structures.
In addition to her clinical work and lecturing at Metanoia, Jo is the course leader for the Psychology and Counselling BSc at the University of Westminster, where she also supervises undergraduate, master's, and PhD student research. She delivers guest lectures, workshops, and professional training for various universities and external organisations.
