Gio is a UKCP-registered integrative psychotherapist and holds a European Certificate of Psychotherapy. She earned a PhD in Molecular Medicine with a focus on Neuroscience from the University of Siena, in collaboration with the National Research Council in Italy, and a BPS-accredited MSc in Psychology from Oxford Brookes University. She is also in the process of completing her Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy (DCPsych) at the Metanoia Institute, having successfully passed her Viva.
Gio has conducted quantitative research in Neuroscience at leading international institutions, including the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Reading, and Oxford University. Her research has focused on understanding key mechanisms underlying mental disorders, with the potential to inform the development of new therapeutic agents.
In addition, Gio has undertaken qualitative research that sheds light on the complex interplay between profound socio-political changes and psychological well-being. Her research aims to inform both clinical practice and the wider field of counselling psychology and psychotherapy.
Clinically, Gio runs a private practice in Oxford, where her interest lies in working with diverse sexualities and gender identities. Furthermore, she is particularly passionate about addressing the unique needs and challenges faced by undergraduate and graduate students. Her clinical interests also include trauma and the role of the body in shaping lived experiences.
Gio’s integrative therapeutic approach is informed by Gestalt, Psychodynamic, and Humanistic theories to support clients as they explore past, present, and future challenges. She is also interested in the integration of neuroscience with psychology, particularly the relationship between brain and mind in understanding the connection between physical responses and emotional or psychological issues.
