Biography

Ros originally trained and worked in theatre in education, going on to have a career as a nurse and midwife for some 20 years. She has provided counselling and psychotherapy for nearly 30 years. Her therapy experience includes work within the NHS, education, voluntary sector, drama therapy and private practice. Ros has a teaching licentiate and has provided supervision and training in counselling and psychotherapy since 2000. Ros was Competence Frameworks Manager for BACP. In this role she wrote the National Curriculum for Supervisor training and contributed to the development of Competence frameworks for a variety of different sectors.

Ros previously worked as a BACP individual and courses assessor. Ros's own doctoral research is a qualitative ethnographic study of school-based counselling and she was Joint Principal Investigator with Peter Pearce, for the Align pilot Randomised Controlled Trial of Humanistic School-Based Counselling   which developed into the Metanoia School Counselling Service. Ros continues to be joint lead for this service and provides ongoing supervision for Metanoia's school-based counselling team.

Ros was also part of the Metanoia team, led by Peter Pearce, that, along with colleagues from BACP’s research and professional standards departments, wrote the National Curriculum for Counselling for Depression (CfD) (NICE recommended, evidence based person-centred counselling for depression) available as part of the government's IAPT programme. As part of this team Ros and colleagues provided and evaluated the first round of training in CfD nationally. Ros remains a supervisor and assessor for Metanoia's CfD Practitioner training.
