Job Title: Sessional Tutor – Post Qualification Diploma in Adolescent and School Counselling (Academic Teaching Staff)

Reports To: Director of Clinical Training
Business Function/Sub-Function: Academic
Location: Teaching delivery is live online

Role Purpose:
To operate effectively as part of a team of academic and administrative colleagues to facilitate learning within the Institute to the highest quality through teaching, assessment, administration, and student support.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

Learning, Teaching, and Assessment:

  • Prepare and develop module teaching materials.
  • Deliver modules effectively.
  • Assess modules, including setting and marking assignments and case studies, and participating as a viva assessor.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative methods of learning, teaching, and assessment, liaising closely with all staff to ensure quality of delivery.

 

Academic Advice:

  • Provide student guidance and support to facilitate progress through the course, including tutorials.
  • Maintain a broad understanding of the course philosophy and operations, assessment requirements, procedures, and university regulations.

 

Management and Administration:

  • Attend tutor meetings.
  • Liaise closely with the academic coordinator.
  • Contribute to course administration, including student recruitment/assessment, induction, record-keeping, and acting as an APL assessor.
  • Undertake personal administrative work such as filing and maintaining student records.

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Actively represent Metanoia at key professional bodies, external events, conferences, or seminars.
  • Participate in professional sector activities such as journal articles, reviews, and workshops.
  • Carry out any other duties as required by the Director of Clinical Training.
  • Work in accordance with Metanoia’s policies and procedures, including Equality and Diversity, Codes of Ethics and Professional Practice, Complaints Procedures, and Health and Safety Policy.

 

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • A relevant professional qualification as a psychotherapist or counsellor (depending on programme requirements).
  • Registration with an appropriate professional body (e.g., UKCP, BACP).
  • Experience of teaching/lecturing within a higher education setting.
  • Understanding of the higher education system and the OfS as a regulatory body.
  • Detailed knowledge of the modalities and specialisms covered in the programme.
  • Awareness of current issues and opportunities in counselling, psychotherapy, and academia.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work effectively under own initiative.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to manage and resolve difficult situations or conflict.

 

Desirable:

  • Teaching qualification such as PG Cert HE (or equivalent) and/or FHEA.
  • A minimum of 3 years' training experience at programme level.
  • Completion of FHEA or Metanoia’s dedicated PGCert HE in teaching counselling and psychotherapy within three years of appointment (employer funding negotiable).
