We are seeking to appoint four Trustees to strengthen our Board and support delivery of our strategic plan. We are particularly interested in candidates with senior management experience in one of the following areas:

Finance / audit

Property management / estates

Digital transformation
Trustees play a central role in shaping the direction of Metanoia Institute and ensuring the organisation continues to uphold its values of social justice, inclusion, openness and growth. This is an exciting time to join the Institute as we modernise our governance, strengthen our leadership structures and expand our impact across the mental health sector.
It is important to our Board that its Trustees reflect the wider community. You will therefore also ensure equality, diversity and inclusion are embedded in everything we do.

Key Responsibilities
Trustees are collectively responsible for the governance and strategic oversight of the Institute. Responsibilities include:

Ensuring the financial viability of the organisation and the effective use of resources

Setting the educational character and mission of the Institute
-
Providing strategic direction, challenge and support to the Chief Executive and Leadership Team
-
Monitoring organisational performance and progress against agreed objectives
-
Protecting and promoting the Institute’s reputation
-
Preparing for and attending Board and sub-committee meetings
-
Ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion are reflected in all policies and strategic decisions
Trustees may also contribute specific expertise to discussions, lead areas of scrutiny, or advise the Board on matters aligned to their professional background.
Person Specification
We are seeking individuals who can demonstrate:

Senior management experience in finance/audit, property management/estates, or digital transformation

Understanding of good governance and the roles of Chair, Trustees/Non-Executives and CEO
-
Familiarity with corporate governance frameworks
-
Experience providing both support and strategic challenge at a senior level
-
A proven commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
-
Strong relationship-building and communication skills
-
Ability to collaborate effectively within a diverse Board
Terms and Commitment
-
Trustees are appointed for a four-year term, with the option of one further four-year term
-
Four Board meetings per year (weekday evenings)
-
Quarterly sub-committee meetings (weekday evenings)
-
Strategic Away Day annually in Central London
-
Meetings are typically held online via MS Teams
-
The role is unremunerated, with expenses reimbursed

About Metanoia Institute
Metanoia Institute has provided high-quality training in psychological therapies since 1984. We deliver part-time, university-validated undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Counselling, Psychotherapy and Counselling Psychology, alongside specialist courses in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes, Adolescent and Schools Counselling, Psychotherapeutic Counselling (NHS-funded), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education. Our extensive CPD programme supports practitioners to maintain and extend their professional expertise.
Rooted in social justice, Metanoia was founded to challenge exclusion in psychotherapy training and remains committed to widening access to therapy and therapist education. Today, we are implementing an ambitious 2023–2028 strategy that focuses on inclusion, innovation, intelligence-led decision-making and long-term sustainability. Our goal is to create a culturally responsive psychological workforce and ensure therapy is accessible to every corner of society.
