Diagnosis and classification of mental illness and mental disorder is a central feature of psychiatric practice. How valid and how reliable is this process? What is the scientific basis for validity and reliability? Should concepts of diagnostic validity and reliability inform the practice of psychotherapy? The workshop will be interactive and will discuss specific diagnostic entities.

This workshop counts towards 1 day of your Mental Health Familiarisation Placement.

Tutor:

Dr John Meehan is Consultant in Adult General Psychiatry in South Kensington & Chelsea. He works with a multidisciplinary team based at the South Kensington & Chelsea Mental Health Centre that provides adult mental health services to the southern part of the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea. Dr Meehan is also Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. Dr Meehan is also a past Trustee of the Westminster Pastoral Foundation.
