Continuing Professional Development & You

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Introduction

CPD can be defined as a range of learning activities through which you keep your professional skills and knowledge up to date, and ensure that you maintain and improve your capacity to work safely, ethically and effectively with clients, supervisees and trainees.

CPD is a professional requirement laid down by all of the professional psychotherapy and counselling bodies (UKCP, BACP, BPS etc). Whilst it is a professional responsibility to follow such a programme, it is our hope, that you identify and design a CPD programme for yourself, which rather than simply meeting the requirements, is stimulating, challenging, responsive to your particular interests and needs, and which keeps you up to date with relevant developments in the field.

The programme that you choose for yourself may include a wide variety of activities, for example, as well as workshop attendance, you may undertake research, reading, writing, attendance and presentations at conferences, serving professional organisations on boards/committees, peer group discussion meetings, participating in an online colloquium, further training in the original or another discipline or other activities, which support your, practice as a professional.

To assist you with personalising your design, we organise a wide variety of workshops and course each year. We hope that you will find many things of interest here, which you can incorporate into your programme.

If you would like further information on any of our courses, please do not hesitate to contact the administrator who is overseeing that course, (see individual workshops for details of this). For more general enquiries, please feel free to contact the CPD administrator, Thilisa Hamilton at Thilisa.Hamilton@metanoia.ac.uk or call her on 020 8832 3074 and/or visit the Workshop/CPD page on this website, where you will find further details and application forms for all our courses.
