This course in psychological coaching is a two-year Master’s course leading to an MSc in Coaching Psychology (for those entrants who have a degree in psychology) and an MA in Psychological Coaching (for those entrants who have a qualification in a related profession, not psychology).
The Postgraduate Certificate year will gain 60 credits at level 4 and candidates can, at the completion of this first year, take an exit award of of a Postgraduate Certificate in Coaching. The second year is the Master’s year and will gain 120 credits at level 4. Both groups of Master’s students will be taught in the same cohort.
The course will comprise taught components (two-day workshops), written assessments, coaching practice, supervision, a research project and presentations. Candidates will be able to gain access directly to the Master’s year by completing a RAL portfolio if they have done previous training in Coaching or already have significant experience as a coach. This will be reviewed at the assessment interview, where guidelines for drawing up the RAL portfolio will also be discussed.
The Postgraduate Certificate Year entitled ‘Key issues in Coaching’ will cover areas such as:
- The process of coaching from an integrative perspective
- Developing an integrative model of coaching practice
- Coaching in organisations
- Ethical practice in coaching and an Introduction to practitioner research.
The MA/MSc year in coaching entitled ‘Developing an integrative framework for coaching practice’ will cover areas such as:
- Structures and process of assessment
- Advanced practitioner research;
- The contribution of concepts from Systemic, Psychoanalytic, Humanistic/Existential, Cognitive Behavioural and Positive Psychology to the development of an integrative model of coaching
