Working with Suicidal Clients

Working with suicidal clients can challenge the most experienced of practitioners. Knowing how best to respond, how to manage organisational demands, and ways in which to help clients explore their suicidal thoughts sensitively require commensurate skill.

This day workshop provides a space for counsellors, psychotherapists and others involved in working with suicidal clients to consider the following areas:

  • personal responses to suicide
  • working with organisational expectations
  • the prediction-prevention culture and implications for practice research and risk factors
  • ways of talking about suicide with clients ethical and professional practice

Dr Andrew Reevesis well published specifically in the field of therapy with suicidal clients, most notably his book, Counselling Suicidal Clients. Andrew is Editor of BACP’s Research Journal, CPR (Counselling and Psychotherapy Research) He is a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist having originally trained as a Social Worker. He has worked in child protection, with vulnerable adults and in adult mental health settings both as an Approved Social Worker and as a therapist.
